About Quilantro

Behind every home,
there are people

Clarity, structure and a human approach. That’s how we see professional letting in Madrid.

Lilian Hermans, founder of Quilantro

Who is behind Quilantro

I came into property management because I realised I could truly make a difference. Not only in practical terms, but also in the way I look at situations, how I approach them and, above all, how I help people feel real peace of mind.

Thanks to my multilingual background, my legal training and my knowledge of the property sector, I don’t just offer support: I take the worry away. Bringing clarity is one of the most important pillars of professional letting, especially in situations where others tend to get stuck or lose sight of the bigger picture.

For many owners, letting feels like a maze of regulations, tenants, paperwork and uncertainty. But when there is structure, you know what to expect. And that brings peace of mind, for both the owner and the tenant.

Our values: what drives us

However, we don’t believe in quick fixes or superficial tricks. Instead, what drives us is a solid professional foundation.

01

Long-term relationships

Of course, trust doesn’t happen overnight: it grows through consistency, honesty and presence.

02

Caring for homes and for people

Above all, every home has a story, and behind every property there is a person. That is why we pay attention to both the human side and the structure.

03

Sustainable growth

It’s not about quick profits, but about building a system that works over time, even when the market changes.

04

Continuous learning and development

After all, you can only help others grow if you keep growing yourself. That’s why we constantly invest in our own knowledge and translate it directly into what we offer.

From service to sharing knowledge

Alongside our day-to-day property management work, we develop training and online programmes such as The Perfect Apartment and Casas Creating Cashflow. In them, we also share everything we have learned in practice about:

  • professional letting
  • how to position your property
  • attracting better tenants
  • processes, mindset and structure
  • handling difficult situations before they escalate

Our goal is simple: to help you, as an owner or small property entrepreneur, take control of your rental, instead of letting your rental control you.

Professional, human and future-focused

We don’t see ourselves as ‘coaches’ watching from the sidelines, but as people who walk alongside you in practice. What we teach, we apply every day ourselves. If something doesn’t work, we let go of it. What does work, we share.

Our vision of letting and the property sector looks to the future: more professionalism, more awareness and better collaboration between owner, tenant and manager. Less chaos. More calm. More quality.

This is what we stand for

We help owners and small property entrepreneurs let their homes professionally:

  • with the bigger picture in mind
  • through clear processes
  • with better tenants
  • with less stress
  • and with more confidence in their decisions

Not faster just for the sake of speed, but smarter, more human and more sustainable.

The values barometer

In many companies, rules rule: following the rules is the creed, and the result is huge, complex policy manuals. But rules say nothing about the underlying values. Instead of enforcing rules, we prefer to be very clear about what our values are and how they translate into real behaviour. ‘Integrity has no need of rules’, as Albert Camus said.

Quilantro’s mission: to serve clients, suppliers and partners proactively, with high standards, continuous follow-up, integrity and transparency. Trust is what Quilantro stands for, especially in a sector where, for many, money is the only driving force.

01

Integrity

Integrity means honesty: telling the truth and leaving the right impression. A person has integrity when there is no gap between intention and behaviour. This kind of authenticity is called congruence. People who are congruent act in harmony with their deepest values and beliefs. They practise what they preach.
02

Care

It’s about caring for people, clients, suppliers and their wellbeing. Actively looking for solutions that create a ‘win-win’ for everyone involved. In everything we do, we keep people’s best interests in mind. And we believe there are enough resources and opportunities for everyone.
03

Talk straight

Tell the truth and leave the right impression. This also means not withholding information or manipulating other people’s thoughts, feelings or actions, leaving a false impression while telling the ‘technical truth’. And when you find yourself caught in a negative cycle, having the courage to stop and speak straight again. It is important, however, not to forget to use tact when speaking straight. Get to the point quickly. Avoid long preambles. Less is more. And call things by their name.
04

Show respect

Treat others the way you would like to be treated. Avoid showing disrespect.
05

Transparency

Doing business openly, with no hidden agenda.
06

Right wrongs

It means that if a mistake is made, it should be put right. Besides apologising, it’s about going the extra mile if the situation calls for it. This is the opposite of covering up and trying to hide a mistake. When mistakes happen, it is important to acknowledge them and apologise, in order to move on.
07

Show loyalty

It’s important to give credit to others and recognise their part in achieving results. Build trust by giving credit where it’s due, so as not to damage trust. Don’t only give people credit for what they do, but also recognise them for who they are. Speak about others as if they were present. If you don’t, it breeds disloyalty.
08

Deliver results

When starting a relationship with a new client, what is the one thing everyone can do to build trust fastest? Deliver results. Add value, contribute, perform. So, besides the activities themselves, the focus is also on delivering results. And on avoiding unfinished projects.
09

Get better

Getting better is based on the principle of continuous improvement. Kaizen, as the Japanese call it. This builds enormous trust. Two strategies: 1. Seek feedback and 2. Learn from mistakes.
10

Confront reality

Confronting reality opens up the interaction and allows results to be achieved quickly. It’s better to confront issues before they become (bigger) problems. Don’t be afraid to deliver bad news.
11

Clarify expectations

As far as possible, create a shared vision and agreement on what needs to be done from the outset. And don’t leave expectations undefined. Because when we assume they are already known, or don’t reveal them, there will be no shared vision of the desired results. This leaves people guessing, wondering or assuming what the expectations might be. Then, when results are delivered but not valued, everyone ends up disappointed.
12

Practise accountability

It consists of: 1. Requirement: take responsibility. 2. Hold others accountable. Take responsibility for results, whether good or bad. Be clear about how you communicate others’ performance. It’s important not to avoid or neglect responsibility. Don’t blame others or point fingers when things go wrong.
13

Listen first

Avoid speaking first and listening last. Avoid pretend listening. That means spending your listening time thinking of a reply and just waiting for your turn to speak. Or listening without understanding. Because when you listen first, you can make better decisions and give people space.
14

Keep commitments

It’s important that we do what we say. That’s why we believe it’s best to give our word only if we intend to keep it. And to communicate when we can’t. Make and keep commitments consistently, to ourselves and to others. What we say and do is what we truly think and feel. Consistently practise what we preach.

Nobody’s perfect, but this is what we strive to stand for every day.

On a personal note

Lilian lives in Spain with her husband. Her children have partly flown the nest, which marks a new stage in her life and in her professional journey.

A stage in which she consciously chooses what really fits: meaningful work, freedom in how and with whom she works, and room to keep growing as a person.

She is someone with lots of ideas, a strong sense of responsibility and a real drive to do things well: for her clients, for tenants and for herself. What motivates her is building something that makes sense in the long term. Not quick wins, but calm, quality and sustainable growth.
